The School of Rehabilitation Sciences & Technology (RS&T) offers programs in Occupational Therapy, Assistive Technology and Accessible Design, Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Communication Sciences & Disorders, Performance Psychology, Rehabilitation Science, and Therapeutic Recreation. Occupational Therapy, Science and Technology Programs (OTST) The Occupational Therapy, Science and Technology Programs (OTST) are consistently ranked among the best in the nation. The mission of the OTST programs is to provide integrated learning individualized clinical experiences, and research opportunities to develop comprehensively prepared occupational therapists and scientists. The occupational therapy master's program is the only public OT Program in the Greater Milwaukee area. The Occupational Therapy Program Director will be responsible for program leadership and strategic planning, overseeing all aspects of program administration to meet ACOTE accreditation standards, finances and budgeting, student services, and teaching. This individual will serve as a member of the core instructional faculty in the Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) and post professional Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) degree programs.
Principle duties:
Program Leadership and Strategic Planning: Develop and grow strategic partnerships with local and regional healthcare organizations and other organizations serving individuals with disabilities. Work with program faculty and colleagues in the school to develop a vision and strategy for the long-term success of OT at UWM. Collaborate with faculty to develop and implement methods for ensuring and evaluating the quality and effectiveness of the OT programs. Oversee the administration of the entry-level MSOT degree program and the post-professional OTD degree program. Oversee the maintenance of records required by ACOTE for accreditation. In collaboration with Head of School, oversee faculty recruitment and performance, and the evaluation of the OT programs.
Program Delivery: Direct program strategic planning, innovation, development and evaluation. Support faculty with new course development including syllabi preparation and learning objectives consistent with ACOTE standards and guidelines and contemporary pedagogy. Oversee regular curriculum assessment and review course changes and curriculum revisions. Evaluate teaching and laboratory needs of the program. Develop and teach courses in the OT program for up to 50% of workload.
Student Success: Oversee the orientation of new students, and the advising process for students. Facilitate meetings to review student progress, develop intervention plans and refer students to necessary resources. In coordination with Academic Fieldwork Coordinator, ensure students are prepared for field placements.
Service: Provide service to the School, College, University and community in a manner consistent with the mission of UWM.
Finances and Budget: Provide fiscal leadership and stewardship of resources. Work in partnership with College leadership to responsibly manage funds assigned to the MSOT and OTD programs and advocate for ongoing program needs.
Work will be performed primarily on the UW-Milwaukee campus. Hybrid work options may be available with specifics regarding work location requirements discussed during the interview process. Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate (e.g., OTD, PhD, EdD or equivalent) awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized institutional accrediting agency by date of hire. (Note: For degrees from institutions in countries other than the United States, consultation with ACOTE will be required).
National certification and eligibility for Wisconsin Licensure in Occupational Therapy.
Minimum of 6 years of documented experience in the field of occupational therapy. This experience must include: clinical practice as an occupational therapist; administrative experience including, but not limited to, program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting; scholarship (e.g., scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching and learning); understanding of the role of the occupational therapy assistant.
At least 3 years of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the postsecondary level.
Excellent Communication and Organization skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated leadership experience in either practice or academia.
Prior experience as an Academic Fieldwork Coordinator, or clinical coordinator in practice, or clinical instructor for Level II or Level III OT clinical placements.
Strong record of teaching and scholarly productivity.
Experience with ACOTE accreditation
Immersive experience with diverse, underserved, and/or underrepresented students, clients, and communities.
