Appointment:The University of Puget Sound School of Occupational Therapy which is ranked by The US News and World Report in the top 10% of Occupational Therapy Schools nationwide, invites applications for a full-time, clinical line faculty position, rank appointment at assistant professor or earned academic rank considered.
Responsibilities:
This position has primary responsibility for teaching in the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) and Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) programs. Opportunities for teaching and/or administration in our on-site or community-based clinics may also be available, depending on the interest and expertise of the successful candidate. Additional duties include graduate student advising, mentoring of student-practitioner collaborative evidence projects and/or doctoral capstone projects, ongoing curriculum evaluation and development, continuation and dissemination of the faculty member's own scholarly work, participation in admissions processes, and participation in department and university service. Faculty in the School of Occupational have opportunities for building an academic career that involves teaching, mentorship, professional growth, scholarship, and curriculum development along with opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration. Implementation of the SCIL-OT model is expected in some courses; mentoring will be provided. Collaborative teaching is a hallmark in the School of Occupational Therapy thus, teaching assignments may include independent and/or co-teaching in various courses. Specific teaching responsibilities will be determined according to the interest and expertise of the successful candidates.
Primary expertise is desired in some combination of the following areas:
behavioral health,
research methods,
ergonomics,
work hardening
applied functional anatomy, and
applied neuroscience
The standard teaching assignment is three units per semester. Teaching load is 6 units total with the primary load occurring during the academic year. Summer teaching, where applicable, is focused mainly on supporting student evidence project teams, doctoral student leadership development and mentoring student projects.
The mission of the School of Occupational Therapy is to prepare culturally sensitive graduates who provide client-centered, evidence and theory informed occupational therapy to diverse individuals, groups, and populations and enhance clients' participation in meaningful, everyday activities. As such, we seek a team member who values experiential learning and has a strong grounding in the use of occupation-based theory to guide the occupational therapy process. Teaching in a manner that supports students in developing the ability to use critical analysis of theory and multiple sources of evidence to make sound professional judgments resulting in science-based and creative solutions to the challenges of professional practice is a priority within our program.
Qualifications:
A post-professional doctorate is preferred. Candidates who are near completion of a post-professional doctorate, and those with exceptional experience and a demonstrated capacity for scholarship will also be considered.
A minimum of five years of professional clinical experience is preferred, however candidates with three or more years of clinical experience will be considered.
A commitment to liberal arts education.
Candidates must have or be eligible for a Washington State Occupational Therapist license.
Research experience and a plan for scholarly activities.
Previous experience teaching in an established entry-level MSOT and/or OTD program and mentoring student projects are highly valued.

Salary: Faculty salaries at the University of Puget Sound are based on a common salary scale based on experience. Assistant Professor salaries for 2024-25 begin at $72,765 annualized in their first year of full-time post-doctorate teaching through $81,428 annualized based on experience. This position is currently offering an over scale payment of $10,000 annually at the level of assistant professor.
