Position Overview:
As a Rehabilitation Therapist at DSH, you’ll work under the clinical supervision of the Supervising Rehabilitation Therapist and the administrative guidance of the Program Assistant in the Rehabilitation Services Department. Your role will be pivotal in conducting and preparing written Rehabilitation Therapy Assessments, participating in Treatment Plan meetings, documenting patient progress, and organizing rehabilitation therapy and leisure skill groups. Your contributions will help patients on their journey toward community reintegration, ensuring they receive the highest quality of care.
Key Responsibilities:
Assessment & Documentation: Conduct comprehensive Rehabilitation Therapy Assessments and provide detailed documentation on patient progress related to their rehabilitation therapy program.
Treatment Planning: Actively participate in Treatment Plan meetings, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to tailor therapeutic interventions to each patient’s unique needs.
Therapeutic Interventions: Use your specialized skills to organize, plan, and conduct rehabilitation therapy and leisure skill groups that foster physical, emotional, and cognitive development.
Minimum Qualifications:
General Requirements for All Therapists:
Completion of an approved clinical internship in the appropriate rehabilitation specialty at an approved hospital or rehabilitation center.
OR Two years' full-time paid experience in a clinical, residential, or community-based setting after receiving the required degree if the internship was not part of the academic program.
Specialized Requirements:
Art Therapy:
Master's Degree in Art Therapy or Art with emphasis in Art Therapy.
OR Registration or eligibility for registration with the American Art Therapy Association.
Dance Therapy:
Master's Degree in Dance Therapy.
OR Registration or eligibility for registration with the American Dance Therapy Association.
Music Therapy:
Graduation from a recognized college with major work in Music Therapy.
OR Registration or eligibility for registration with the American Music Therapy Association.
Occupational Therapy:
Graduation from a recognized college with major work in Occupational Therapy.
OR Certification as an Occupational Therapist registered by the American Occupational Therapy Association, or eligibility for such certification.
Recreational Therapy:
Graduation from a recognized college with major work in Therapeutic Recreation.
OR Certification as a registered recreator with a specialization in Therapeutic Recreation by the California Board of Park and Recreation personnel or the National Therapeutic Recreation Society, or eligibility for such certification.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Expertise: In-depth knowledge of rehabilitation services, particularly for developmentally, mentally, or physically disordered offenders.
Communication: Ability to establish rapport, maintain detailed clinical data, and communicate effectively with patients and staff.
Resilience: Sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform duties under potentially stressful conditions.
Drug Testing Requirement: Applicants must pass a drug-screening test unless already in a designated sensitive class.
