POST- PROFESSIONAL HAND THERAPY FELLOWSHIP
Accepting applications from Occupational Therapists who are passionate about pursuing career advancement in hand therapy.
· Fellowship duration is 12 months, 3/4-full time, 30 hours of patient care/week
· One to one mentorship by a Certified Hand Therapist at least 3x week.
· Mentorship/guidance will include but will not be limited to;
-initial hand therapy evaluation, treatment planning for various upper extremity conditions, orthotic fabrication and fitting, modalities, therapeutic exercises and activities, ADL retraining, adaptive equipment ordering. etc.
-Research will be encouraged. One to one guidance towards submitting a manuscript to Journal of Hand Therapy (first or second author depending on contribution).
-Preparation for the Certified Hand Therapy exam will be encouraged. The fellow is expected to engage in self-directed learning activities.
-Use of “Rehabilitation of the Hand and Upper Extremity, 7th Edition, 2021. By Skirven, OTR/L, CHT, Osterman, MD, Fedorczyk, PT, PhD, CHT, ATC, et al” (No need to purchase your own)
-Possible further employment opportunities available after completion of the fellowship.
The Hand Therapy Fellow will, under the guidance of the Certified Hand Therapist, have their own patient caseload and will be responsible for all clinical aspects including evaluation, treatment planning, and documentation. The Hand Therapy Fellow is expected to ask questions and collaborate with the CHT when evaluating and developing treatment plans, especially for complex cases. The Hand Therapy Fellow will participate in the clinic in-service program. Treatments include the use of the physical agent modalities of heat, water, ultrasound, massage, and active, passive, and resistive exercises, functional activities, custom fabricated orthoses, pressure garments, wound care, equipment procurement, work simulation and community re-integration. The fellow will work alongside a certified hand therapist, and collaborate with physical therapists, speech therapist, referring surgeons, patients and families. Caseload will be approximately 90% hand/upper extremity.

Qualifications and experience
· Bachelor’s in Occupational Therapy
· Prefer at least 1 year experience working as an Occupational Therapist
· Preference will be given to an OT with outpatient experience
Requirements
· Cover letter describing experience and interest in pursuing career in Hand Therapy
· Resume indicating at least one post graduate hand therapy course attended
· Three professional references
· Current NBCOT certification
· License to practice Occupational Therapy in Hawaii or eligibility to attain this prior to start of fellowship
· Basic Life Support
