Position Summary

The Program Chair of the Occupational Therapy program reports directly to the Dean of the School of Behavioral and Health Sciences. The Program Chair plays a vital role in the academic administration of Walsh University. The Program Chair serves as a leader who provides the link between the faculty and the administration of the academic and administrative policies of the School. The Program Chairs ultimately is responsible for managing daily operations within the program and works with the Dean of the School on program development and assessment centered on faculty and student growth consistent with ACOTE requirements; recruitment and student admissions; program expenditures and budgeting; faculty and staffing; university governance activities; strategic planning initiatives and implementation. The Program Chairs workload includes 50% allocated to administrative duties for the program with the remaining 50% dedicated to teaching, scholarship, and service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Primary academic responsibilities of the Program Chair include, but are not limited to the following:

• Maintain ACOTE accreditation
• Develop, assess, and revise the strategic plan for the program
• Development and assessment of the OT program
• Hiring and mentoring faculty
• Supervising staff
• Development, assessment, and revision of the program vision, mission, and goals
• Oversight of the day-to-day operations of the program
• Teaching
• Student advising
• Productive scholarship
• Mentoring student scholarly projects
• Service to the university, school, program, profession, and community in accordance with the mission of Walsh University
• Academic Advising
• Admission and Recruitment
• Assessment responsibilities
• Budgetary responsibilities
• Faculty and staff responsibilities
• Funding responsibilities
• Governance responsibilities
• Planning responsibilities
• Program responsibilities
• Other duties as assigned or required.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Must understand and support the Mission, Vision and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University, as a Catholic higher education university as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae, and possess the following:

Education:

• Occupational Therapy degree from a program accredited by ACOTE
• Earned terminal degree (PhD, EdD, ScD, OTD, etc.)
• Licensed in the state of Ohio; or eligible for license in Ohio

Work Experience:

• Eight (8) years clinical experience
• Three (3) years experience in a full time postsecondary academic appointment

Skills and abilities:

• Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students, staff and faculty. Positive attitude a must.
