Radford University invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Chair and Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) Program Director, a twelve-month, tenure-eligible, full-time Teaching and Research Faculty appointment in the Department of Occupational Therapy. The primary work location for the Chair will be at the main campus in Radford, VA, while overseeing an additional learning location at Radford University Carilion in Roanoke, VA.
The Chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy will be responsible for providing leadership and promoting excellence in teaching, scholarship, and professional and university service. The Chair will manage and administer the Department of Occupational Therapy, including program planning, assessment, budgeting, coordinating and recommending hiring of diverse faculty and staff, facilitating professional development, and advocating for student, faculty, and staff needs. Additionally, the Chair supervises and evaluates full and part-time faculty and staff, manages faculty work assignments, represents the department to the university and community, and serves as a channel of communication regarding program, personnel, and budget matters. The Chair is charged with utilizing an equity mindset while promoting a collegial work atmosphere, maintaining intra-departmental cooperation, and maintaining relationships between the Department and the University. The Chair will be able to lead the Department of Occupational Therapy into the future through growth of new and existing programs as the workforce evolves. The Chair should have the capacity to create a supportive environment within the department, and to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to achieve strategic plan(s) of the Department, Waldron College and Radford University. In the role of faculty member, the Chair teaches a minimum of one course per academic year in areas of expertise and interest, and guides students as they progress through their chosen program. As MOT Program Director, responsibilities include maintaining compliance with ACOTE accreditation standards, recruitment and retention of talented and diverse students, and promotion and support of community partnerships that facilitate programming, instruction, fieldwork, and service-learning opportunities. The Chair supports the role and functions of the MOT Site Coordinator at the Radford University Carilion learning location, necessitating travel between Roanoke and Radford. The MOT program is currently accredited until 2027.

Required:
Current certification as an occupational therapist, and eligible for license to practice in Virginia;
Earned post-professional doctoral degree awarded by an institution accredited by a recognized regional accrediting body;
Minimum of eight years of experience in occupational therapy, including clinical practice, administration, scholarship, and at least three years in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at a post-secondary level;
Eligible for graduate faculty status;
Demonstrated ability to modify and/or develop occupational therapy programs as workforce demands evolve;
Demonstrated ability to successfully administer accredited programs in occupational therapy, including managing faculty and staff and physical and financial resources;
Clear record of establishing relationships with university colleagues, the community, and alumni;
Demonstrated capacity to create a supportive environment and to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to achieve strategic plans within a department
Preferred:
At least six years in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at a post-secondary level;
Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, service and scholarship;
Demonstrated ability to guide junior faculty through progression of faculty rank;
Experience with strategic planning at the department and college level;
Desire to develop and support a departmental research agenda;
Experience with ACOTE accreditation requirements and processes;
The ideal candidate will demonstrate an energetic approach, a growth mindset, and exceptional communication skills.
